Doesn't look like we have any Redcliff locals in the Forum, so I'll try to help.
It's a while since I even went out that way. I would have thought UQ was a fair drive from there. According to Google Maps it will take you over an hour.
Not sure if this will work here's the link

Though I am not sure. Another option might be around Wellington Point. same distance and time to U of Q but you wouldn't have to go through the city and I believe there is some chance of a nightlife/cafe society.

http://tourism.redcliffe.qld.gov.au/ Just to give you an idea of how fast things happen in Redcliffe, the site's home page still proudly headlines that it is Queensland's Tidiest Town for 2005. Redcliffe isn't actually in Brisbane it's a city on its own I think.
You could almost forget partying in Brisbane city and trying to get a taxi home it would cost you more in cab fares than your food and wine. Sorry I can't help you with actual experience.

By the way I had a quick look at the public transport options from Redcliffe to UQ and you can forget it. There's no train and you would need four buses or something. Think like two hours. There's a link to the Translink Journey Planner on our site here
