Well what a surprise! Adam & I hesitantly decided to join in this year (never having been to such an event in our lives!). We expected traffic jams, parking issues, bus queues, jostling crowds etc. But it wasn't to be. Admittedly we opted for the tamer 5km run and walked most of the way but everything ran smoothly and without stress. Just after 7:45am we parked at the RNA showgrounds for $6. from there we caught a bus (without having to queue) to the start line at Portside (8:30am) where we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast of bacon and eggs at a local cafe before preparing for the run. Lazing in the sun, the run kicked off at 9:45am.
It took us about 45 minutes to get back to RNA showgrounds at a fast walking pace. There were people from all walks of life participating from toddlers to grandmothers, couples, joggers with strollers, people in wheelchairs, groups of teenagers, people in funny costumes, baby boomers...everyone.
It was great to be out on a lovely Spring morning, joining in the celebrations with our fellow Brisbanites. We plan to go the whole hog next year with the 10kim run...maybe we'll see you there?
