The new Tugun Bypass will open six months ahead of schedule on June 2.
The bypass is a link between the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales. The 7km road connects the Stewart Rd interchange at Currumbin with the Tweed Heads Bypass in NSW and is expectd to be used by about 46,000 vehicles each day and will reduce traffic on the Gold Coast Highway by up to 55%.
A community day of celebration is planed for June 1 and will be a chance to walk, run or ride on the road.
The Tour de Tugun bike race will be staged early in the morning, but for the less energetic that are bus tours through the tunnel, entertainment, rides and other children's activities.
